Mamá Imelda is a LIE (and Coco Proves It)

MIGUEL: "And one day, he left with his guitar and never returned. She didn't have time to cry over that walkaway musician."

You are ninety seconds into the film and you already have a villain filed away, before a single living character speaks. The Riveras brand Héctor a deadbeat on the strength of, by their own admission, █████████████. They say it themselves: ███████████████████████████████████████████████.

And the punishment they choose isn't grief. It is erasure: his face ripped from the photo, his name a thing you are ██████████████████ for so much as speaking. Why does a family that builds an altar to its dead work this hard to delete one of them? The video opens on the hole in the frame.

HÉCTOR: "When there's no one left in the living world who remembers you, you disappear from this world. We call it █████████████."

Being forgotten here isn't sad. It is fatal, the only way a dead man can truly die. And memory isn't something you hold on your own; one living person has to keep telling your story. Héctor has exactly one thread left: ████, the girl from the legend, now ancient and slipping.

Which is why one confession should stop the room cold. About the decades after he vanished, Imelda admits what she set out to do: ██████████████████████████████. Set that beside the rule the film just taught you. The video does the math it is hoping you won't.

This is the second her ninety-year story collapses. The deadbeat never existed; the man was killed trying to come home. Two witnesses, one of them the corpse. Handed that, she does not deny it. She ███████████████████████████████████████████████████████.

The line everyone remembers as her redemption is a refusal she says out loud: ██████████████████████████████████████. Minutes later she swings at the real killer and resents the victim in the same breath. The film names its murderer on a stage; this was never a hero-swap.
